A plastic kit of the American battleship USS South Dakota in 1:700 scale from the Vee Hobby brand. The designation 1944.6 refers to the configuration of the ship in June 1944, that is to the late wartime state with the light anti-aircraft armament and the radars added. The Deluxe Edition is a richer variant against the basic release of the same model; the particular composition of the package is stated on the packaging.
The South Dakota was the first unit of the class of the same name of fast battleships of the US Navy. Against the older types she had a shorter, heavily armored hull and a concentrated arrangement of the main armament in three gun turrets. She served in the Pacific and in the Atlantic, escorted aircraft carrier formations, and in this role she was valued above all for her dense anti-aircraft defense. By June 1944 she had gone through modifications of the radar equipment and an extension of the light armament, and that is the state the kit captures.
On a battleship in 1:700 first decide whether you will build her on the water or with the full hull, because that affects the choice of a base as well. Paint the deck and the superstructure separately and glue them together only after painting, as masking is otherwise harder. Apply the shades of the wartime camouflage scheme with an airbrush in thin coats. Glue the small guns, masts and radar antennas on with cyanoacrylate glue at the end; they are fragile. Photo-etched parts, if they are included in the package, should be bent over a straight edge, and do not overdo the amount of glue.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
