A resin detail accessory from the manufacturer ELEFANT in 1:35 scale. It replaces the front hull armor of the Pz. IV tank in its H version from the mid to late production batches and carries weld lines and small details that on plastic parts are usually only suggested. It is not a conversion of the whole vehicle but one area that you swap during the build of the hull.
The front plate of the hull is the most exposed surface of a Pz. IV model. The individual production batches differed in the thickness and in the way the armor plates were joined, so it is here that it is decided whether a model matches the intended batch. The welds were wide and irregular and in injected plastic they cannot be reproduced without compromise, because the parting line of the mold cuts through them and they get sanded away while cleaning up flash. With a resin casting those worries fall away and the surface stays whole. A replaced front plate also makes the job easier for anyone who wants to add spare track links, brackets or additional armor to the plate.
First work out on the plastic hull how much material will have to come off, and cut less rather than more, in two passes. Remove the casting block with a saw and level the surface on abrasive paper laid on a flat base, otherwise the plate will sit askew. Before gluing, wash the part in warm water with detergent and let it dry. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; fill the seam against the plastic and after sanding check that the weld runs smoothly into the surrounding parts. Begin the painting with primer, because otherwise the transition between resin and plastic shows through. Lay dust and mud on the front plate from the bottom upward, the way the vehicle picked them up while moving.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and it is not a kit in its own right. Paints, glue and the base model are not included in the package.
