This resin fuel tank from the brand ELEFANT replaces the corresponding part on models of the American M113 tracked armored personnel carrier and of the vehicles derived from it. It is a detail accessory, not a vehicle model; the basic kit has to be on hand.
With replacement parts of this size the mating surface decides everything. Before you reach for the glue, offer the tank up dry and check against the light whether a gap is left between the part and the hull; on resin castings the lower surface is deliberately left slightly over-sanded and it is fine-tuned with a few strokes of abrasive paper laid on glass or another flat board. At the same time, check the position of the mountings and whether fitting them means removing part of the original plastic relief. The M113 family is wide and individual kits handle the rear differently, so a dry fit saves later repairs.
First wash the casting in lukewarm water with detergent, so that no mold release agent is left on the surface. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; on a larger mating surface the gel version is safer, as it gives time to true things up. Run a thin layer of putty into the seam around the edge and sand it back, otherwise the base color will emphasize it. Then comes primer, the base shade and only afterwards the details. On real vehicles the tanks tend to be the most marked by service, so worn finish, a faint shadow under the edges and fine mud where it sprays off the tracks all pay off here.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without the base kit. Glue, paints and tools are not included in the package.
