1:35 GERMAN WEHRMACHT JERRY CANS "NOWACK BAUTZEN", 1941 PATTERN, OPEN, 10 PCS.

Wehrmacht Nowack Bautzen jerrycans, 1941 pattern, open, 1:35, ten pieces

The set brings ten miniatures of the standard German twenty-liter jerrycan in 1:35 scale, in the configuration with the cap flipped open, with the mark of the Nowack works at Bautzen and to the 1941 pattern. It is neither a vehicle model nor a kit: it is an accessory for equipment that has already been built and for diorama scenes.

The real subject

The standard jerrycan was produced in enormous numbers during the war and its shape changed in detail according to the year and the particular press shop. The basic idea stayed the same: three handles side by side for carrying by one person or two, a folding cam lever that could be worked without tools, and pressed crosses on the sides that stiffen the body and leave room for the contents to expand. The maker's mark pressed into the body is the main distinguishing clue for collectors and modelers alike.

Use, building and painting

Separate the castings carefully with a sharp scalpel or cutting nippers and sand the cut marks back. Wash resin and 3D-printed parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting and bond them with cyanoacrylate glue; injection-molded plastic takes an ordinary liquid modeling cement. The open version is rewarding in scenes where fuel is being topped up: a jerrycan set on a fender, in the hands of a figure or put down in the grass. Suggest a darker rub around the neck; a dark wash and a dry brush show up well on the body.
