This is not a kit of a tank but a detail accessory. The photo-etched set replaces the grille cover over the cooling opening of the engine compartment on plastic models of the early T-34/76 version of 1940 in 1:35 scale. The grille cover is one of the most conspicuous parts of the rear deck seen from above, and the plastic part usually simplifies it into a solid surface with a suggested pattern. Photo-etched metal has a thickness matching the scale and a genuine see-through effect. The manufacturer is the Polish firm Aber, a specialist in photo-etched and turned metal accessories for military models.
The T-34 model 1940 was the earliest production form of the Soviet medium tank, armed with a short 76.2 mm gun. It differed from later machines in details of the turret, the hatches and the hull fittings, which changed repeatedly over the course of the war. The combination of sloped armor, a diesel engine and wide tracks made the T-34 one of the most influential tanks of its day. Early machines are attractive to modelers precisely for their differences from the later versions that are commonly built.
Sand or cut away the original plastic grille and clean up the opening so that the photo-etched part seats flush. Separate the part with a scalpel and make any bend in a photo-etch bending tool. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue in drops along the edges, so that glue does not clog the pattern. Degrease the photo-etched parts before painting and spray them with a primer for metal. Complete the green finish of Soviet vehicles with a dark wash in the grille, dust pigments and, if you like, traces of paint worn away by the crew and the stowage on the deck.
The accessory is supplied as a photo-etched set, unpainted. A base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
