A photo-etched detail set in 1:35 scale from the Polish manufacturer Aber, intended for a model of the German heavy tank Sd.Kfz. 181 Tiger I. It holds the grilles and screens of the covers of the cooling vents at the rear of the hull. This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model of the vehicle in its own right.
The Tiger I was among the best-known heavy tanks of the Second World War. Its engine compartment was cooled by large fans on either side, whose openings were covered with a sturdy steel grille and, beneath it, a fine mesh against drawing in dirt. It is precisely this double structure of a coarse grille and a fine screen that cannot be reproduced faithfully in injected plastic.
Sand away the solid surfaces of the plastic covers and leave only the surrounding frame. Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp knife, bend them in a bending tool or along a ruler and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue at individual points. Spray the inside under the grille a dark shade so that the piercing looks deep. Dust pigments and oil washes take well on finished grilles.
This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
