1:48 Tiger Camo Paint Masks For ATARS F/A-18D Hornet VMFA-224 is a four-sheet set of masks for the striking tiger finish of the reconnaissance version. Made by DN Models.
Responsibility details are not available.
The tiger scheme is among the most demanding finishes that have appeared on a combat aircraft: irregular stripes run along the whole length of the fuselage, continue onto the lifting surfaces and have to pass continuously across all the glued seams. The package therefore contains four full sheets of pieces, the most of any set in this range.
The finish was carried by a two-seat Marine Corps machine equipped with a reconnaissance system housed in the forward fuselage in place of the gun. The squadron with a tiger in its badge chose the pattern precisely because of its tradition, and it was one of the most striking finishes any machine of this family ever received. The unit operated two-seat machines for over three decades before moving on to a next-generation aircraft.
Spread all the sheets out dry beside the model and work out where the individual stripes run before you reach for the airbrush. At this stage it is advisable to have the model glued and filled, because a stripe interrupted by an unfinished seam cannot be put right afterward. Apply the lighter base tone over the whole surface and the darker stripes only over the pieces once laid, and lightly at that, so that the edge is not left raised.
Neither a plastic model nor paints are part of this item.
