A small detail that can turn an anonymous facade into a real house with a minimum of work: a number above the entrance or beside the door gives a building in a diorama an identity and credibility at once. The decals are intended above all for buildings and their fittings in 1:35 scale, but you can also use them on signs, gates, posts and gateways.
Apply the decals in the classic way: cut out the motif, dip it briefly in lukewarm water and transfer it to its destination. The surface should be smooth - on rough facade plaster a setting solution (a decal softener) helps, as it lets the decal settle into the texture of the surface. Once dry, brush over it with matte varnish so that the sheen of the carrier film disappears and the number blends with the facade. The numbers can be combined onto enameled plates made from thin plastic, or applied straight onto a wall or a door. The patina that follows - a fine wash and a dusting of pigment - settles the detail naturally into its surroundings. Choose the numbers to suit the story of the scene: a delivery driver looking for an address, or soldiers finding their way through the streets, gain a new dimension thanks to house numbers.
