LOZENGE46 — painting masks with the Lozenge pattern 1:35 (Solid Scale)

A set of painting masks from the German manufacturer Solid Scale. The motif is the Lozenge pattern, that is the dense mosaic of polygons that aircraft fabric covering was printed with in the First World War; the set carries it over into 1:35 scale and into the style of the hypothetical schemes labeled 1946. It is not a kit and not decals, but an accessory for painting: the mask is laid onto a dry coat and a further shade is sprayed through it.

Use

• Spray the underlying shade and let it dry thoroughly; on a multicolored pattern plan for building the layers up in stages.
• Lay the masks out so that the mosaic carries over edges, hatches and transitions between surfaces.
• Press the edges down all the way round; on small fields bleeding shows at once.
• Spray the paint at a right angle and in thin coats, otherwise the small fields run together.
• Take the film off shortly after it has dried and store it flat for further use.

Who the set is for

For modelers who want an unusual, strongly graphic pattern and do not want to cut it out laboriously. Given the number of small fields it is a pattern that is more demanding on patience, but the result is striking. The film is low-tack and is intended for repeated use.

Count on masking taking more time than the spraying itself with a pattern as intricate as this. Plan the work in stages, then, and always let the paint dry properly between them.
