Wooden deck with masks and photo-etched parts for the Japanese ship Kashii in 1:700 scale is an aftermarket set that gives the plastic deck of the kit a veneer with pre-printed plank laying.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set is an accessory for the plastic kit of the Japanese ship Kashii, not a model on its own. According to the name it holds a self-adhesive wooden deck with pre-printed plank laying, a masking sheet, planking masks and photo-etched metal parts. The veneer goes straight onto the plastic deck and takes over from the engraved surface with real wood.
On a smaller ship the deck areas are narrower and more broken up than on a battleship, so the veneer has to be trimmed in place more often. Use a scalpel with a fresh blade and run it lightly along the edge of the plastic; there is no need to press, as the cut is made by sharpness, not by force. Change the blade before it stops biting: a dull knife tends to pull the wood fibers out and leaves a frayed strip at the edge that lifts after gluing. Always cut on a mat, not directly on the model, where the blade would scratch the plastic.
Degrease the plastic before gluing and let it dry out completely. Peel the covering film off in sections, line the part up against the longest straight edge and force the air out with a soft wooden stick. Fit the photo-etched parts only after the deck is glued, and glue them with a minimum of super glue. Seal the surface at the end with a thin coat of matte varnish and bring the seams out with a very thin wash.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model. The kit, paints, varnish and glues are not included in the package. The set is cut for one particular kit, Aoshima 045435; check the match before buying.
