A masking accessory for painting road wheels, not a kit. The set gives the boundary between the rubber tire and the disk a ready-made shape, so the cutting of rings and the drawing around of the line with a brush both fall away.
The set is cut for the wheels of the kit from Tamiya. Wheel masks follow from the dimensions of a particular part, so they need not line up on a kit of another brand – verify, therefore, which kit you are building.
The best moment for masking is the one when the wheels are not yet glued anywhere. There are several reasons. You have free access to a wheel from all sides, so you put the mask in place comfortably and can press it down properly around the whole perimeter. You can spray at a right angle to the surface, which is the only angle at which the paint does not get under the margin of the mask. And you do not have to deal with overspray onto the hull, the torsion arms and the tracks, because no hull stands in the way.
The practical execution is simple: put the wheel on a toothpick or a skewer stuck into polystyrene, or else leave it on the sprue and cut it off only once painted. This way a whole series can be painted in one sitting and the inner sides right along with it, about which you then no longer have to decide whether they will be visible. Just do not forget two things. First, leave the glued surfaces free of paint or scrape them before gluing, because cement for plastic will not join plastic through a coat of paint. And second, mark the painted wheels somehow or leave them in the order in which they were on the sprue – on a vehicle with several sizes of wheel that pays off.
It is a masking accessory for modelers. The package holds neither a kit, wheels nor paints. Store the sheet flat and out of direct sunlight.
