This is an aid for painting, not a kit and not replacement wheels. The masks cover the rim of the road wheel and expose the rubber tire band, so it can be sprayed cleanly and with a sharp edge. This item is cut for the wheels from the Academy kit. A sister set for the Sheridan from Tamiya is cut in parallel, which has the same name and differs precisely in the target kit, so the maker of your own box is what decides when choosing.
The Sheridan is an aluminum air-transportable tank and its running gear differs strikingly from ordinary medium tanks. It has only five road wheels on each side and no return rollers; the upper run of the track rides directly on the road wheels. Five large wheels side by side mean you see the whole running gear at once and any irregularity in the width of the tire band leaps out. The wheels are sprung individually on torsion bars, so once they are seated in the hull a gap is left between them, but not a gap large enough for comfortable work with a brush. The missing rollers have one more consequence for weathering: the track sits on the wheels and dirt collects directly on their upper circumference.
Once the mask is off comes a dark wash into the groove around the tire band and up to the ribs of the disc. In practice the Sheridan moved about a great deal in dusty and muddy terrain, so pigment dust on the underside of the hull and cakes of mud between the wheels are in order, but apply them unevenly, or they look like a sprayed coat. The inner faces of the wheels and the space by the idler wheel deserve more dirt than the outer surfaces. The running surface of the tire band wears to a lighter gray tone, for which very light dry-brushing around the outer circumference is enough.
Paints, glue and the kit itself are not included in the package. The set is cut for the Academy kit; with a model from another manufacturer, check the match.
