A set of parts for building a quadruple Maxim machine gun assembly in 1:35 scale. It is not a whole vehicle kit but a weapon on its own, which you set on a vehicle bed, into a position in the terrain or on a base in a display case.

The real subject

The Maxim machine gun is a water-cooled heavy machine gun; around the barrel it has a conspicuous cylindrical jacket in which water carries the heat away during long bursts. Grouping four of these weapons on one traversing mount came about for defense against low-flying aircraft, where what counts is the density of fire in a short moment rather than range. Such assemblies appeared on the beds of trucks and in fixed positions at bridges, stations and warehouses. For a modeler it is a rewarding subject, because the four barrel jackets and the open structure of the mount look good even without a surrounding scene.

Building and painting tips

• Wash and degrease the parts before painting, as paint does not hold on a greasy surface.
• Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a short way from the part and sand the remainder.
• Dry-fit the parts first and only then glue them, because on a traversing mount a wrong angle only shows at the end.
• Apply the paint in thin coats, so that it does not flood the fine relief of the barrel jackets.
• The recommended glue and the order of the steps are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
