A rugged case with a laptop belongs among the typical equipment of modern field workplaces: command posts, signals vehicles, workshop and control room back rooms. In a scene it works best in the combination where the case is open and the laptop is lying beside it or directly in it. The viewer then grasps at once what is going on in the diorama. Consider the variant too where the case stays closed and serves as a transport box standing on a truck bed, on a table or on the ground. A laptop with its display open is a small but prominent item, so place it where it can be seen clearly, ideally facing the main axis of the scene. It helps the sense of reality if you leave it turned slightly and add a cable of thin wire.
Clean and degrease the parts and use a primer appropriate to the material. The shell of the case looks best in a flat shade with the edges picked out with a dry brush, while the latches and hinges will take a darker metal tone. You can treat the laptop display as switched off, that is, dark with a faint sheen, or suggest a lit screen with a light area under a smooth gloss varnish. For the keyboard a dark wash is enough to suggest it; at this scale the detail is created by contrast, not by drawing individual keys.
