A model of the shipborne SeaRAM close-in weapon system designated MK 15 Mod. 31, in the version with add-on armor, 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
SeaRAM came about by joining two proven solutions. It took over the traversing mount and the tracking equipment from the Phalanx close-in weapon system, but instead of a rapid-firing cannon it carries a launcher for short-range anti-aircraft missiles. That gave it a markedly greater reach against anti-ship missiles without the ship having to alter its onboard wiring. In naval records it is listed under the designation MK 15 Mod. 31, and what tells it apart from the gun version at a glance is the angular block of the launcher where Phalanx has its barrel cluster.
The model captures the version with add-on armor, that is with protective plates at the exposed places on the mount and the radome. The 1:35 scale is generous for a weapon system, so even the small details that get lost in the usual ship scales stand out. Check the number of parts, the material, the way the parts are made and the presence of decals in the manufacturer's instructions.
Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Leave the light radome clean; the add-on armor, by contrast, will take sharper transitions and dents on the edges, because it is fitted and removed on board. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
