A pair of castings in modeling resin in 1:35 scale from the maker CMK. This is not a kit of equipment but a figure accessory for a scene. The set is exceptional within the whole figure range in that it joins two entirely different types of figure: one mounted, that is modeled seated, and one on foot.
In terms of building, a mounted figure is the most demanding case you will meet in 1:35 scale. Its legs are spread at a fixed angle that cannot be changed without intervention, and the spread of the thighs has to match the width of the back of the animal you are seating the figure on. Test the fit dry as soon as possible and deal with any difference by sanding the inner side of the thighs rather than by bending, as resin is hard and cracks under an attempt to bend it. Check also that both feet touch the same place on both sides, otherwise the rider sits crooked and it shows at first glance. The second figure, on foot, is by contrast stood on terrain beside and serves as a counterweight to the composition: place the pair so that the standing figure is roughly at the height of the animal's head and both figures turn toward each other.
On a mounted figure the casting blocks tend to be on the undersides of the feet and at the rear, that is in places that stay hidden, which makes it all the more important to cut them off as flat as possible so that no play arises. Cut with a fine-toothed saw and level the surfaces with a file. The parting line runs along the outer sides of the legs and across the clothing; sand gently and restore the folds with a knife. Before painting, wash in warm water with detergent because of the release agent. Gluing solely with cyanoacrylate glue; with a rider it pays to back the joint between the figure and the back with a wire pin, because the area of the seat alone is small and the glue has little support in it. Sand with respiratory protection.
Paint the mounted figure separately from the animal and join them only at the end, as you will otherwise not get a brush in between the thighs. Paint loose flowing clothing with a more pronounced wash and brightening, because with such a figure it is the folds that make the whole impression.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
