The sheet from ETA diorama is a printed paper accessory for scenes in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit and not a waterslide decal: the designs are cut from the sheet with scissors or a scalpel and glued straight onto the wall, the furniture or the floor of the diorama. Against a decal, paper has the merit of keeping a thickness and an edge of its own, so once glued down it reads as a real object hung or propped up in the scene rather than as printing on a surface.
Paintings belong above all in interior dioramas — the living rooms of wrecked houses, corridors, inns, command posts or rooms with one wall opened up. In a scene they fill a role the model alone cannot: they give the room a civilian character and a readable story. They also work as a small accent in the background behind figures, where it is enough to hint that something hung on the wall, for instance a fallen frame leaning against the rubble.
Cut the design out with the smallest possible white margin, with a sharp blade against a metal ruler — an inaccurate trim gives the paper away at first glance. Glue it with a thin layer of PVA or matte paper glue brushed onto the surface, not onto the print. A frame can be suggested with a thin plastic profile or a strip of painted paper. Go over the white cut edge with a pencil or dark paint so that it does not show. Mild aging adds credibility: a faint hint of ocher or brown with a dry brush, a weak wash into the corners and finally a matte varnish that blends the sheen of the print with the rest of the scene.
This is a printed paper accessory for a diorama. Glue, paints, a model and figures are not included in the package.
