This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. On models of armored vehicles the grilles over the cooling openings of the engine compartment are among the places where the plastic from the box is most of a hindrance: a mold cannot make them thinner than roughly a millimeter, so on a finished model they read as a solid panel. A replacement grille has a realistic thickness and genuine openings, and because it lies on the upper surface of the hull, it is the first thing seen from above. The designation universal means that the set is drawn to the usual layout of the engine compartment of the Panzer III type, not to one single kit.
The Panzer III was a German medium tank of the period of the Second World War, built in a series of production versions that differed in main armament, in armor and in the arrangement of the superstructures. The engine compartment at the rear of the hull was cooled by air drawn in through grille-covered openings on the upper deck. The same design solution appeared, with variations, on the self-propelled guns built on the same chassis.
Remove the original molded grilles from the model, so that the new section sits on a flat surface, and if need be back the resulting opening so that the empty interior is not visible under the grille. Glue sparingly, ideally with cyanoacrylate applied with a pin around the perimeter, as otherwise the glue will run into the mesh and clog it. Spray thin, well-thinned coats and rather from a greater distance, as thick paint clogs the mesh quickly. Weathering, on the other hand, does grilles good: dust and pigment applied dry into the hollows bring the texture out and increase the impression of depth. It is ideal to fit the grille only after the base camouflage has been painted.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
