This is a resin accessory set from the ELEFANT brand in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle but a replacement for the simplified plastic parts of the running gear. The set addresses a particular variant of the idler wheel, namely the mid welded form, that is the type assembled from welded sheet parts. According to the name its extent is enough for one vehicle.
The idler wheel sits at the rear end of the running gear and tensions the track through a swing arm; unlike the drive sprocket it is not driven. The chassis of the Pz. IV series and of the vehicles derived from it went through a series of modifications during production, and idler wheels were made in several forms differing in the shape of the arms, in the number and shape of the openings and in the production technology. The welded mid variant is told apart from the later cast one precisely by the surface and the layout of the disc. That detail tends to be easily visible on a model, because it lies at the edge of the silhouette.
Wash the resin castings in lukewarm soapy water, otherwise paint will not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the mating surface carefully so that the wheel sits true and the track does not twist. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). It is practical to paint the wheels separately from the hull and to fit them only after the tracks are in place. At the end dust pigments and mud in the lower part of the running gear come in useful, while the surfaces in contact with the track are on the contrary left polished to a metallic sheen.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
