1:35 masking set for the road wheels of the Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. H — templates for the rubber tire bands of the small wheels of leaf-sprung bogies. The set is cut for the Zvezda kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an aid for painting, not a model and not a replacement part. The templates mark out the rubber tire band of the road wheel, so it can be sprayed and need not be lined with a brush. The set is cut for the Zvezda kits.
In masking terms this chassis is the opposite of the Soviet designs with large wheels. The road wheels are small and there are many of them: on each side they are hung in pairs in leaf-sprung bogies, so one model comes to sixteen small wheels, plus several return rollers on each side, which usually have rubber too. The total of tire bands is therefore higher than on most heavier machines, even though each individual one is small. The second peculiarity is optical: the Ausf. H version was commonly built with side armor skirts, which cover a large part of the running gear in profile. Three quarters of the work done can thus disappear behind sheet metal once the build is closed up.
It is with this subject in particular that the decision is worth thinking through in advance, because the ratio of time invested to visible result depends on how you build the model. Leave the skirts off, fit only some of them or show them damaged, and you will see the running gear in all its glory, with sixteen wheels to line by hand being an evening's work — here the set repays itself at once. Build a fully skirted vehicle, on the other hand, and weather it with dust, and you will see only a narrow strip of the tire bands near the ground, and much rougher technique will give the same impression. The deciding factor is therefore your building intent.
This is an accessory for modelers, not a model. Paints, the kit and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
