PzKpfw IV drive sprocket 1:35, late form, variant B

A resin replacement running gear part for models of the PzKpfw IV tank in 1:35 scale, specifically the second of the two forms of late drive sprocket offered. It is not a kit of the vehicle but the sprocket itself, which replaces the plastic part from the base kit. The casting is conceived as disassembled, so the individual parts of the sprocket are separate and are joined only during the build.

Variant B and why it matters

The PzKpfw IV was produced in many batches and the drive sprocket went through several modifications. The late form therefore comes in two shapes designated as variant A and variant B. Which piece belongs on your model follows from the particular production batch of the vehicle; the difference between them is not described here, so pictorial references for the version being built have to be the guide. For a finished model that is no small matter: the drive sprocket sits at the front and is visible from every ordinary angle of view.

Fitting and painting tips

First wash the castings in warm water with detergent, otherwise the mold release agent will prevent the paint from adhering. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw rather than snapping them. Sand resin wet and with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a primer before painting. If you fit the sprocket only after the track is on, you will fine-tune its engagement with the teeth more easily and the whole running gear will look more natural.
