A resin detail accessory from the manufacturer ELEFANT in 1:35 scale. It contains the rear armor plate of the hull for the chassis of the Pz. IV tank in version J and for derived vehicles, in the rendering with a late idler wheel mount. It serves to swap the original plastic rear for a more accurate casting; it is not a model in its own right.
The late production examples differed from the earlier ones in the rendering of the rear and in the idler wheel mount, which was simplified for faster manufacture. For a modeler that means the right combination of plate and tensioner determines which period a finished vehicle belongs to. A resin casting supplies this area in one piece, with edges and welds that injected plastic reproduces only softened, because it is limited by the parting line of the mold and by the need for the part to leave the tool.
The rear is the most rewarding surface for weathering, so it pays to finish it after the base color has dried and to work on it separately. First cut the part off the casting block, level the surface and degrease it in warm water with detergent. Once dry, spray the primer and only then the base shade. Leave the base darker in the shadows around the mount and under the towing eye, and on the horizontal edges lighten the color slightly instead. Apply dust with pigment from below, and only suggest traces of operating fluids with a thin line, so that the model does not look overdone. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; the seam is filled and sanded back.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and it is not a kit in its own right. Paints, glue and the base model are not included in the package.
