This photo-etched detail set in 1:35 scale from the Polish brand Aber is not a standalone model but an accessory for raising the detail of the Soviet T-34/85 medium tank. It adds fine metal elements that injection-molded plastic cannot capture faithfully.

The real subject

The T-34 was a Soviet medium tank of the Second World War, famed for its combination of sloped armor, good mobility and simple manufacture. The T-34/85 version from the later part of the war carried a larger three-man turret and a more powerful 85 mm gun, which improved its ability to fight the new German tanks. It is among the most important tanks of its day.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts carefully with a sharp blade, form the bends under a rule or on a bending tool and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Spray the fine photo-etched elements with a primer; the detail will come out with a wash in the recesses and a light dusting of pigments.
