A detailed injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet rocket system 2B7 with the BM-13NM launcher — the postwar version of the famous Katyusha — in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The model includes a well-worked cab with slide-molded parts and the complete drivetrain including the engine, the gearbox and the axles; it also contains photo-etched parts.
Katyusha is the popular name for the Soviet salvo rocket launchers that became famous in the Second World War for mass fire with unguided rockets. The BM-13NM version is a postwar modernization: the launcher frames with their guide rails were mounted on a three-axle truck chassis (of the ZIL-157 type) and the vehicle served from the late 1950s into the 1960s. The weapon did not aim at individual targets but saturated a whole area with fire — hence its devastating area effect and its psychological impact.
Assemble the chassis, the engine and the transmission first, and only then the body and the launcher frame with its guide rails — on the finished model it is a prominent feature that is worth painting separately. Glue the plastic with thin cement, and fit the rockets onto the metal guide rails only after varnishing. Use a primer and an airbrush; build the Soviet green up in layers. Finish the weathering with a dark wash, brightened edges from dry brushing and dust pigments on the chassis and the fenders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
