This is an aid for painting, not a kit and not replacement wheels. The sheet of masks covers the rim of the road wheel and leaves the rubber tire band exposed, so it can be sprayed with a sharp edge. The cut matches the wheels from the Hobby Boss kit. With this range the maker of the target kit is given in the name, because masks from one molding will not fit another.
The T-40 is a light amphibious reconnaissance tank and its running gear is small against that of medium-weight tanks. There are only four rubber-tired road wheels of small diameter on torsion bars on each side, plus return rollers, the drive sprocket at the front and the idler wheel at the rear. The small diameter is the key to the whole job here. In 1:35 scale the tire band is a narrow strip and lining it freehand with a brush so that all four wheels look the same is incomparably harder than on the large wheel of a tank. It is also true that with four wheels side by side you see the whole running gear at once and an uneven tire band width cannot be hidden. The hull of the T-40 is boat-shaped for swimming, so the running gear sits fairly low and is well exposed in the view from the side.
Once the mask is off, let a dark wash run around the tire bands to pick out the small disc. Small wheels are easily swamped, so work more sparingly with dust and mud than on large machines: a veil of pigment on the underside of the hull, cakes only into the corners between wheels, by the idler wheel and on the inner faces. The boat-shaped hull invites a hint of a waterline and of deposits from flooded fords. The running surface of the tire band wears quickly on a small wheel, so very light dry-brushing around the outer circumference is in order, but really only as a hint, or the wheel will lose its shape.
Paints, glue and the kit itself are not included in the package. Check before ordering that your kit matches the one the set is cut for.
