A masking set in 1:35 scale for the model of the Tor-M2 air defense system. The pieces are stuck onto the areas that are meant to stay untinted while you spray.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Tor-M2 is a Russian mobile short-range air defense missile system. The launcher, the radars and the crew are all concentrated in a single tracked vehicle, which can therefore find and engage a target by itself. A model of such a machine has a lot of glazing and wheels or running gear with pronounced transitions, and that is exactly where painting without masks is hard work.
The masking pieces are cut to the shape of particular parts. You stick them onto the places that are meant to stay in their original color, only then spray, and take them off once the paint has dried. The result is sharp edges with no paint running over, which are hard to achieve with a brush or by outlining. On vehicles this is usually how the cab glazing and the border between the disc and the rubber part of the wheels are handled.
Offer the piece up dry and clean, press it down all the way round and work the edges down with a toothpick so that paint cannot run under them. Spray in thin coats; a heavy coat creates a step at the edge of the mask. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, not several days later.
The masks are cut for the parts of a particular kit, so check against the manufacturer's details which Tor-M2 kit the set belongs to. Paints, glue and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
