The sheet from ETA diorama is printed paper intended for scenes in 1:35 scale. It holds no plastic or resin parts and it is not a decal. The motifs with a horror and post-apocalyptic mood are meant for fictional scenes: deserted streets, ruins, evacuation points, roadblocks. They serve purely as a backdrop for the setting.
A large-format billboard calls for a supporting structure. Build it from plastic profiles or thin strips, back the motif with card and only then fit it into the frame – paper on its own does not have enough stiffness and in one piece it will bend. The smaller posters are glued onto walls, fences, boarded-up shop windows and onto posts. In a fictional post-apocalyptic scene it makes sense for the posters to be glued up in disorder, over one another, partly torn down.
With this type of motif, age and damage are what make the result. Tear a corner dry, sand the edge gently with fine abrasive paper, bend the surface and crease it over an edge. A lifted tip of a poster is achieved by gluing the lower part with PVA glue and leaving the upper part loose. A thinned wash mutes the color and shows the age of the printing, dry pastel adds dust and rubbing. Spraying with matte clear coat unifies the surface and the poster stops looking like a glossy cutout from a magazine. Stick to one guideline: the less perfect the surface, the more the viewer believes the scene.
