An accessory set of photo-etched metal parts for a model of the German Tiger II heavy tank of the Second World War, in the version with the early turret, for which the name Porsche turret has taken hold among modelers. The set replaces the plastic parts where their thickness is most visible: the fenders and their brackets, the grilles over the engine bay, the tool holders and the small external equipment. It is not a kit of the tank but an addition to a plastic model.
The Tiger II, also known as the Königstiger, was the heaviest German tank put into series service in the Second World War. It carried an 88 mm gun with a long barrel and heavily sloped frontal armor. The first fifty or so vehicles received a turret with a rounded front and a bulged side, which modelers refer to as the Porsche turret. Its drawback was a shot trap under the barrel, which the later turret with a flat front did away with. The different shape of the turret is the main recognition feature according to which a model is built, which is why this set too is listed separately for the early version.
The photo-etched fenders are thin, so you can bend them, tear them or partly remove them and thus suggest damage from use, which is entirely typical of heavy German vehicles. Cut the parts out with a scalpel and make the bends in a bending tool. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue in a minimal amount. Apply a primer before painting. A three-color camouflage over a dark yellow base suits the vehicle. Soften the transitions between the patches with an airbrush, then unify the surface with a filter and emphasize it with a wash in the recesses. Finish with mud and dust on the tracks and the lower part of the hull.
This is an accessory set, not a kit of the tank. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
