Flak Tower IV Heiligengeistfeld G Tower is a plastic kit of the Hamburg anti-aircraft tower in 1:350 scale from the manufacturer Takom. It is not a vehicle and not an aircraft but a model of a structure.

This injection-molded plastic kit captures a structure, not hardware: an anti-aircraft tower of type G, that is, a Gefechtsturm or combat tower, which carried armament of its own. In reality this structure was complemented by a lower tower of type L with control and radar equipment; that is a subject of its own. The 1:350 scale is chosen so that the model matches the ship and hardware kits of the same scale in size.
The type IV tower stood on the Heiligengeistfeld in Hamburg and was built in 1942 as part of a group of massive reinforced concrete structures put up in several German cities. In design terms it is an almost cubic block with very thick walls and roof, with galleries and raised platforms at the corners, on which the anti-aircraft armament was placed. The structure served at the same time as a shelter for the civilian population. It was precisely because of the massiveness of the structure that it was not demolished after the war, and the building in Hamburg stands to this day, converted to civilian use. The model therefore also interests modelers of architecture and builders of dioramas of an urban setting.
The build is simpler than with hardware, but it puts the emphasis on the surface. Large flat areas will show every unevenness well, so sand the parting lines down thoroughly and fill the seams. Concrete is best done by spraying a light gray base, into which irregular glaze patches of several shades of gray and beige are then layered, so that the surface does not come across as uniform. A flowing wash will bring out the engraved seams of the formwork and the edges of the galleries, and pigments will add dust and traces of running water under the openings. If you are planning a diorama, reckon with the structure being fairly tall even in 1:350 and lay out a base with enough area around it.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
