The gun of 90 mm caliber, model 1939, was among the heavy anti-aircraft armament of the Italian Regia Marina in the Second World War. The designation L/50 does not give the caliber but the length of the barrel: the barrel is fifty times longer than the diameter of the bore. A long, slender barrel is typical of this weapon and it is precisely the detail that decides on a model whether the armament looks true.
A replacement barrel in 1:350 scale. It replaces the barrel from the kit, which for manufacturing reasons tends to be thickened and often carries traces of manufacture along its whole length. The replacement part is thinner and straight by comparison, which shows particularly well in this scale, because the barrel is seen against the sky. This is an accessory for a kit and no model in its own right will come of it; the number of pieces in the package is stated in the manufacturer's instructions.
Work with tweezers over a surface with a raised edge, because in 1:350 scale the part is as thin as a thread. Widen the opening in the base of the weapon carefully with a micro drill and fit the barrel dry, and only then glue. Use a glue suitable for the material in question; cyanoacrylate glue holds on metal and on resin alike. Before painting, wash the part, degrease it and apply a thin coat of base color, otherwise the shade will rub off during seating. Glue the barrel on only after the surroundings have been painted, so that you do not have to take it between your fingers again.
