A set of eight turned metal barrels of the Japanese naval gun of 12.7 cm caliber, 5 inches in imperial terms, with a barrel length of 40 calibers. These are turned metal barrels, that is an accessory for a plastic kit in 1:350. The metal parts replace the plastic barrels from the mold and bring a straight axis, a drilled muzzle and a surface with no trace of a parting line. On medium-caliber guns, of which a ship carries a larger number, the difference shows mainly in uniformity, because all the barrels look the same.
The gun of 12.7 cm caliber with a length of 40 calibers was the standard heavy anti-aircraft weapon of Japanese warships. It was mounted in twin mountings, and on smaller vessels in single ones too. The count of eight barrels in the set is therefore enough for four twin mountings.
Cut the plastic barrel off at the mounting mask, sand the area and open the hole out with a micro drill to the diameter of the pin, working up gradually from a smaller drill. Glue the metal in with gel cyanoacrylate glue, which does not run into the surroundings. On twin mountings take care that both barrels have the same elevation and that they are parallel. Painting can be done after fitting, but degrease the parts first and apply a primer for metal, otherwise the paint rubs off the smooth surface during ordinary handling.
The set is an accessory for a model, not a kit in its own right. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
