Injection-molded plastic kit of a large Type IXD long-range submarine in 1:400 scale. The box contains parts for the full hull, the conning tower, the deck armament, a small stand and decal sheets. The real subject was originally a German ocean-going submarine taken over by the Imperial Japanese Navy, and the kit therefore allows the boat to be built in her later Japanese form.
Type IXD submarines were among the largest German boats and the ones that operated furthest from home. Several units came into the hands of the Japanese ally, where they received Japanese designations and served until the end of the war, among other things on long-range transport duties. The very long hull, the bulky conning tower and the great endurance that destined these boats for operations on both sides of the world are characteristic.
Line the halves of the hull up and sand the joints smooth. Glue the small armament of the conning tower and the deck with liquid cement for plastic. A uniform submarine finish suits a primer, gray or dark shades with an airbrush and a fine wash to bring out the hatches and the free-flooding vents. Separate photo-etched accessories will improve the fine railings and antennas.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
