This item is NOT a model of a helicopter but a set of decals. The sheet in 1:48 scale is devoted to the AH-1W SuperCobra attack helicopter, nicknamed the Whiskey Cobra after the letter in its designation, and specifically to machines in combat service. It offers several marking options including machines of the US Marine Corps and of export users, so more than one different machine can be built from a single sheet. The package holds technical lettering and warning captions, which on modern helicopters make up a substantial part of the appearance.

The real subject

The AH-1W SuperCobra is the twin-engined version of the proven Cobra attack helicopter family, developed for the US Marine Corps. Compared with the earlier single-engined machines it brought considerably higher performance and safety over the sea, a wider choice of armament and more modern targeting equipment. Under its stub wings it carries both anti-tank and unguided missiles, and in the trainable nose turret a multi-barrel 20 mm rotary cannon. The type proved itself in desert as well as mountain conditions and became the main attack helicopter of the Marine Corps for several decades. Besides American units it was also taken into service by foreign armed forces, with whom it serves in slightly different configurations.

Use

• coat the area under the decal with a gloss clear coat, otherwise a matte silvery edge will appear
• take the decal out of the water only once it has released from the backing paper, and do not leave it in the water for long
• on broken surfaces use a decal softener so that it conforms to the rivets and panel lines
• once dry, coat the whole model with a matte or satin varnish according to the look you want
• apply the small technical lettering last so that it is not damaged during handling
