An injection-molded plastic kit of the twin-engine jet trainer aircraft AT-3 in 1:48 scale from the Taiwanese brand Freedom Model Kits. This boxing is aimed at the early and prototype machines, that is at the form in which the aircraft came about and was tested. The number of parts, the contents of the package and the number of decal schemes are stated in the instructions enclosed with the kit.
The AT-3 is a twin-engine trainer aircraft of tandem layout, developed in Taiwan for preparing pilots for jet hardware. It entered service in the first half of the 1980s and besides training it served as a platform for light attack tasks as well. The prototypes and the early production machines differ from the later versions in details of the airframe and the equipment — exactly for that reason they come out as separate boxings.
Proceed in the classic way: finish and spray the cockpit and the instrument panels before you close the fuselage, otherwise you will no longer get at them. Glue the fuselage with thin cement for plastic, which runs into the gap by capillary action, and fill and sand the seams on the spine and the underside — on a smooth airframe every remaining step shows. Lay down gloss clear before the decals and matte after them. It pays to mask the glazing of the tandem cockpit rather than to line it with a brush. If you are finishing the model for a display case, leave the landing gear bays and the air intakes clean and tuned — it is on them that the model is most visible in 1:48 scale.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
