About product

The Friedrich with the cleanest aerodynamics of the whole line

The F-4 version received the DB 601E engine and an MG 151/20 cannon firing through the axis of the propeller. Above the engine a pair of MG 17 machine guns was added to it, whose muzzles project from the cowling right above the exhausts. The rounded wingtips and the deeper cowling make the Friedrich the most balanced Messerschmitt in shape, so every unevenness in the frames of the cockpit is visible on a finished model.

What is in the box

Inside lies film with pre-cut masks for the outer side of the canopy, two masks for the national insignia and turned metal barrels: two MG 17 machine guns and a Pitot tube under the left wing. The shapes of the cuts correspond to the parts of the Hasegawa kit.

How much time it saves

Masking a curved canopy by hand means cutting some twelve strips of tape, offering each one up, pressing it down and trimming it with a scalpel along the edge of the frame. Honest work takes an evening and the width of the frames comes out uneven anyway. Pre-cut film compresses that step into less than half an hour and the frame stays equally wide along its whole length. Against the plain masking set without metal, this one adds the turned parts that would otherwise have to be made by hand.

And what is added instead

The inner side of the canopy is not masked, so the frames inside wait for a brush. The metal barrels are glued only after the fuselage is sprayed and dry, otherwise the muzzles get clogged with paint. The holes in the cowling usually need to be widened slightly with a drill, otherwise the metal cylinder seats crooked and the difference is noticeable at once from the front. Count also on having to transfer the mask from the backing with a needle or pointed tweezers; touching the adhesive side with your fingers does not pay.

FAQ

There are not. The set covers the outer glazing; the inner frames are painted with a brush, or left in the shade of the cockpit interior.

Only after the fuselage is sprayed and dry. If they were fitted earlier, paint would clog the muzzles and exactly the impression of an open barrel that the metal is bought for would be lost.

The cuts are derived from the Hasegawa parts. On another Friedrich model the masks will fit only approximately and the frames will have to be trimmed.

It is the airspeed sensor under the left wing. The plastic part is thin, brittle and breaks during handling; a metal replacement lasts.
