A photo-etched set in thin brass sheet from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:48 scale. The word exterior defines its scope: details of the external surface of the aircraft, not the cockpit. In this range the photo-etched parts are unpainted and without an adhesive layer, which sets them apart from the same manufacturer's colored interior sets. The set is not a kit or a finished model: it is an accessory for a plastic model of the twin-engine Bf 110E in the night fighter form.
Eduard makes three related items for this machine and it is good not to confuse them. This one is unpainted exterior photo-etched parts. The second is a colored self-adhesive set for the cockpit. The third is the reduced set of the Zoom range, which holds only the main colored interior parts. The exterior set does not overlap with them, so it can be used alongside either of them.
The Messerschmitt Bf 110 is a twin-engine heavy fighter aircraft with a crew of two or three and glazing along the whole length of the forward fuselage. The E version came about as a fighter-bomber with a strengthened structure and stores under the fuselage. The designation Nachtjager means night fighter: in that role the machine operated in darkness and carried the corresponding equipment. The external surface of the type is rich in small sheet-metal elements, access panels and aerial fittings, which is exactly where thin metal tells.
Cut the parts off with a sharp knife against a hard surface, not with nippers, as otherwise the edge will ripple. Make the folds in a bending tool and degrease the brass with alcohol before gluing. Glue with cyanoacrylate or with epoxy, as cement for plastic does not hold on metal. Apply a primer before painting. In 1:48 scale the parts are small, so lay them out on a strip of adhesive tape and work over a light surface.
This is an accessory for a kit, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
