A supplementary 1:48 sheet for the Flying Fortress: letters for fuselage codes, numerals and the markings of bombardment groups in a gray version.
Responsibility details are not available.
This sheet is not one of those with a painted girl on the nose. It aims at the modeler who wants to mark his Fortress accurately and needs building blocks for it: individual letters of the fuselage code, numerals and the symbols of bombardment groups, printed in a gray shade. From separate characters you can therefore assemble a combination no ready-made sheet for a particular machine offers.
American formations over Europe needed to recognize hundreds of aircraft within a few minutes while assembling a formation. A system therefore came about in which a geometric marking with a letter on the vertical tail surface identified the parent group, while the pair of letters on the side of the fuselage belonged to the squadron and the last letter distinguished the individual machine within it. The serial number on the fin was added to that, and not infrequently a row of small marks the crew credited itself with after every completed mission over a target.
Working with individual letters is slower than sticking down ready-made lettering, but it gives exactly what you want. Measuring the spacing with a thin strip of tape stuck under the row and laying the characters down one after another from the center to the edges proves itself. While they are wet they can be moved with tweezers by fractions of a millimeter. Once dry, check the row from a distance, because uneven gaps show on a finished model sooner than a wrong shade does.
The contents are a printed sheet for a ratio of 1:48. It serves as an accessory to a Fortress kit, which you provide separately.
