1:48 Caccia notturno et al. is an OWL decal sheet for models of aircraft in 1:48 scale, focused thematically on Italian night fighting.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a sheet of waterslide decals for plastic models of aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a part to be glued on: in the package there is a printed carrier film from which the markings are released in water and transferred onto a finished painted model. The name of the sheet refers to Italian night fighting, and the addition et al., in the spirit of the Latin for and others, suggests that the sheet is not limited to a single machine. Before buying, compare the contents of the sheet with the model you are building.
The expression caccia notturno is Italian for a night fighter. Italian units intended for night interception came about during the Second World War mostly by modifying day fighters and twin-engine types. Technically that showed in darker camouflage finishes, in subdued national insignia and in different identification markings, because night operations made other demands on visibility than daytime operations. Thematic sheets of this kind concentrate on precisely these elements.
A decal will take hold reliably only on a smooth glossy surface. On a matte finish a microscopic layer of air stays under the carrier film and the joint turns gray once it has dried. The procedure is therefore unambiguous: let the paint cure, spray a thin coat of gloss clear varnish where the markings will go and let it rest for at least a day. Only then apply the decals. With a larger sheet it pays to varnish the whole area on which you will be laying the markings, not just spot by spot, as otherwise the boundaries of the glossy islands are visible even after the final flattening.
The decals are an accessory to a model. The kit, paints, varnish and softener are not included in the package.
