The third part of the decal range from the Czech maker AML Decals devoted to the fighter versions of the Bristol Beaufighter in 1:48 scale. These are waterslide decals, not a kit or a finished model. The set is meant for modelers who want to give their Beaufighter markings other than those the kit box offers, or who are building several machines of the type side by side. The focus on the Mk.IF and Mk.VIF versions means the fighter forms with radial engines, not the torpedo variants.
The Beaufighter grew out of the design of the Beaufort torpedo bomber but received new, more powerful engines and armament concentrated in the nose. It was precisely the roomy fuselage and the load capacity that allowed airborne radar to be installed, and thanks to that the aircraft became the backbone of British night fighting from 1940. The Mk.IF was the first fighter form and the Mk.VIF a later night fighter with more powerful Bristol Hercules engines. The crew of two sat separately, the pilot in front and the operator behind the wing.
Night fighters were often sprayed in very dark matte shades, and on those every imperfectly settled decal stands out. Always lay a gloss varnish under the decals, cut the motif out close to the printing and soak it for only a few seconds, so that the adhesive does not dissolve too soon. Once transferred, blot the water away with a towel, adjust the position with a damp brush and let it dry. A decal softener will help draw the decal into the engraved lines. Finally go over the whole model with a matte varnish, which levels the edges of the film with the surrounding surface.
The box holds only decals. A kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
