This is a photo-etched add-on set for the cockpit of the F/A-18C model in 1:48 scale, not a model of the aircraft. A photo-etched metal sheet makes it possible to produce elements at a thickness injection-molded plastic cannot reach, so the interior comes across more faithfully, particularly on models built with the canopy open. The specific list of parts is stated on the box of the set.
Photo-etched cockpit sets usually concentrate on the areas that in plastic are merely suggested, that is on the instrument panel and the side consoles, the controls, the frames and small reinforcements. On modern combat aircraft the cockpit is usually the first thing the viewer looks at, and the difference between a molded and a photo-etched panel is marked from up close. The set is intended for modelers who regard the cockpit as the main stage of the model.
The F/A-18C Hornet is the single-seat version of a carrier-borne multirole aircraft with two jet engines, in service with the US Navy and the Marine Corps. The design was laid out from the start for operation from aircraft carriers, that is for a reinforced landing gear, an arrestor hook and folding wings. The type served in both the fighter and the strike role.
Finish the cockpit before you close the fuselage up, otherwise you will no longer reach it. Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, and make the bends in a bender or between two rules so that the edge is sharp. They are glued with superglue in a really small quantity, and for transparent features rather with a canopy cement, which does not go white. Before painting, degrease the sheet and apply a primer.
