This is NOT an aircraft model but a set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks from New Ware in 1:48 scale. The masks are cut from kabuki tape, Japanese washi paper with an adhesive layer, and they serve for accurate masking while painting a plastic kit of the carrier-based F9F-2 and F9F-3 Panther fighter. The parts are cut in advance to fit one specific model, so cutting the frames out by knife falls away.
The Grumman F9F Panther was the first successful carrier-based jet fighter of the US Navy and it went into action in the Korean War. It had a straight wing and became a mainstay of Navy and Marine Corps squadrons both afloat and ashore. The F9F-2 and F9F-3 versions differed in the engine used; most F9F-3 machines were later brought up to F9F-2 standard.
The BASIC level is the basic variant. It covers the outer masking of the glazed canopy, and of further clear parts where there are any, plus masks for the wheel rims as a rule. It does not hold masks for the inner face of the glazing or separate frame borders, as it concentrates on the essentials, that is a clean transition between frame and glass while spraying. The masks are stuck onto the clear parts so that they follow the curvature, and after airbrushing they come away gently with no adhesive residue.
An add-on painting mask set, not a standalone model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
