Film with pre-cut masks of the cockpit framing of the 1:48 Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-5, for both sides of the glazing. The cut matches the Hasegawa kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The fifth production variant of the Focke-Wulf differs from the previous one in a detail that shows clearly on a model: the engine mount grew 15 centimeters further forward. The reason was overheating and the wish to move the heavy radial powerplant away from the cockpit, which at the same time improved the balance of the machine with external stores. The A-5 version became the most widespread link between the early and the late machines, flew over the Kuban, over Sicily and against the daylight formations over Germany, and served as the basis for a range of field conversions, from fighter-bombers to torpedo carriers. Its cockpit stayed unchanged, which makes choosing accessories easier for modelers.
The canopy of this version has narrow frames and a slightly domed shape on which tape cut by hand readily creates steps. The pre-cut parts get around that problem: they seat into the corners, are pressed down and the frame comes out equally wide along its whole length.
They are applied from outside and from inside so that the frame has full color when the cockpit is looked into as well. The film is removed after spraying, before the finish has fully cured, and the clear part is left without a trace. It pays to start from the smallest fields, because they are harder to find once the surrounding paint has dried. German fighters also carried bands and numbers on the fuselage, and every scrap of film left over from masking the cockpit comes in useful for those.
