Snow and mud tracks for the GAZ-AAA model in 1:48 scale are an accessory for a kit you have already bought, not a model of the vehicle. They imitate the tracks fitted over the rear dual wheels, which improved the vehicle's mobility off the road.

An accessory set for the plastic kit of the Soviet three-axle GAZ-AAA truck in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit or a model: the parts are fitted to a model already under way and change its appearance from an ordinary road vehicle into a machine ready for heavy going.
Trucks with 6x4 drive reached the limit of what they could do in mud and snow. The answer was tracks fitted over both wheels of the rear dual pair: they turned a pair of wheels into a short tracked run, spread the weight over a larger area and markedly improved grip. They were used seasonally, were fitted out in the field, and in winter and autumn running on the Eastern Front it was a routine modification. For a model that means a conspicuous change of silhouette that everybody notices.
First check how the tracks sit on the wheels and on the base - a vehicle with tracks stands a little higher and the view from the side has to stay symmetrical. Wash the parts in warm water with detergent, dry them and go over them with primer. Painting here is really an exercise in weathering: a dark gray to brownish gray base, a brown wash into the hollows and, on the contact surfaces, a light metallic sheen with a dry brush, because it is there that the surface is rubbed. Mud is made with textured paste or with pigment and a binder and is applied from the bottom upwards; snow always right at the end and only into shaded places, or it looks like a dusting of sugar.
