Turned single-piece barrel of the German 88 mm L/56 gun in 1:48 scale from Aber. Intended for models of the Flak 18 and Flak 37 anti-aircraft guns.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a turned metal barrel in 1:48 scale from the Polish manufacturer Aber. It replaces the plastic barrel of the German 88 mm gun of 56 calibers in length in the single-piece, so-called monobloc form carried by the Flak 18 version and by some of the Flak 37 guns. It is not a model of the gun but a detail accessory.
The oldest version of the German 88mm gun, the Flak 18, had a barrel made in one piece. Its length of 56 calibers gave the weapon its usual L/56 designation. The fundamental drawback of the monobloc design was that the whole barrel had to be changed when it wore out, so on later versions a sectioned barrel replaced it. The smooth surface with no dividing joints is the recognition feature of this older variant on a model.
Cut the plastic barrel off at the cradle, true the pin with a file and check dry that the metal part sits on the axis. Degrease the metal, scuff it lightly and bond it with super glue. Apply a metal primer before painting. Bring out the hollow muzzle with a dark shade, and if you like add gentle sooting with a pigment. The collars and shoulders on the barrel are emphasized by a light dark wash applied once the base color has dried.
This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
