This set from the Czech maker HGW brings the technical stencils for the British Hawker Tempest Mk.V fighter of the second production series in 1:48 scale. It is an accessory for a plastic model: it contains the small maintenance, service and warning legends that appeared all over the surface of the real airplane and give a model an authentic density. It is not a kit and not the main markings, but one extra layer of fine detail.
HGW uses wet transfer technology: only the print itself is carried onto the model, with no visible carrier film, so once it has dried there is none of the usual glossy rim around the marking. The result therefore looks as though the legends were printed straight onto the surface, which is ideal for fine stencils, where a conventional film would be a distraction.
Apply the stencils to a smooth, glossy, clean surface. Dip the piece briefly in clean water, lay it in the right place and slide the print off the backing onto the model with a finger or a brush. Work patiently; the stencils are many and they are small. Finish with a clear coat to the degree of gloss you want.
This is an accessory (wet transfers), not a kit. The model and the paints are not included in the package.
