A universal sheet of Japanese national insignia in 1:48 scale. It offers eight sizes in the plain form and another eight sizes with a white outline.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Japanese national insignia looks simple at first sight, but it is exactly its simplicity that causes trouble in building. The circle has no pattern that would swallow an inaccuracy, so every deviation from a circular shape or from the right diameter shows immediately. What is more, two different forms were used during the war, the plain disc and the disc traced with a white outline, which appeared mainly on machines painted in dark green.
The manufacturer's information lists both series separately. The plain form is represented by eight diameters ranging from 500 to 1300 millimeters, the version with the white outline likewise by eight diameters, this time ranging from 650 to 1350 millimeters. The figures given relate to the real aircraft, so on a model in 1:48 the discs come out at roughly 10 to 28 millimeters.
The set does not aim at a single type but serves as a stock of markings for Japanese work as a whole, from fighters to twin-engine bombers. It is particularly useful when building older kits whose original markings have an inaccurate diameter or a pinkish shade of red. Before gluing, it pays to check the diameter against a drawing, because a difference of one size is more conspicuous on a circle than on any other shape.
Only the national insignia are included. The set does not offer type designations or the lettering of individual machines.
