This plastic kit from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi captures the two-seat supersonic trainer Mitsubishi T-2 in the finish of the tactical fighter training squadron of the JASDF. That unit served as the so-called aggressors — its pilots played the opponent in training combat and their machines wore conspicuous, deliberately different camouflage schemes. The model in 1:48 scale thus offers an attractive and unusual color scheme of a kind not normally seen on trainers.
The Mitsubishi T-2 was the first supersonic aircraft developed and built in Japan. It first flew in 1971 and from the middle of the 1970s served with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force for the advanced training of pilots. It was powered by two license-built Adour turbofan engines, and its layout with a slender fuselage and swept wing also served as the basis for the single-seat F-1 support aircraft. With the aggressor training squadron the T-2 machines simulated the tactics of a potential opponent for many years during the training of fighter pilots.
The build is made easier by a thin cement for plastic models applied into the seams with a small brush. The aggressor camouflage has bold color areas — an airbrush and careful masking of the transitions pay off. We recommend a base primer before painting, a gloss coat under the decals and a final matte coat to unify the surface. A fine dark wash will pick out the panel lines.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
