A masking set for the Junkers Ju-88C-6b Night Fighter in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. Pre-cut masks for the intricate nose glazing, which is difficult to mask with tape.

This is a masking set, that is an aid for painting, not an aircraft kit. It contains pre-cut masks for a model of the Junkers Ju-88C-6b in its night fighter version in 1:48 scale. It is made by Eduard, a Czech manufacturer from Obrnice near Most.
The Ju-88 is among the aircraft most demanding to mask of all. Its glazed nose is divided into a great many small irregular panels, and cutting tape for each of them by hand takes hours of work in which uneven frames are easily produced. Pre-cut masks shorten that task to transferring ready-made parts onto the model and keep the frames the same width along their whole length. The C-6b version is a fighter conversion of an originally bomber airframe with a modified nose, so the shape of its glazing differs from the bomber variants — the masks are therefore not interchangeable between versions.
Wash and degrease the glazing before masking, because a mask holds poorly on fingerprints. Lift the parts with tweezers and press the edges down with a toothpick. Apply the paint in thin coats; one heavy coat creates a pronounced step at the edge of the mask. It works well to spray the frames in the interior shade first and only then in the outer camouflage finish. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, because after longer they may leave a sticky residue.
The set does not contain the model, paints or glue. It serves for masking while a plastic kit is painted.
