The set covers the cockpit of the Japanese single-seat N1K2-J fighter in 1:48 scale — the instrument panel, the side consoles and the seat belts. The details are printed on decal paper with a layered structure, so they are applied by soaking and are not glued on as parts. This is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory for the interior.
A Japanese panel differs from Western practice in its layout to begin with: the gauges are not arranged in the standardized flight group you know from American and British machines but are spread out more freely and have a different division of scales. Added to that is a different way of marking and lettering. For the modeler that is the reason a panel from another type does not suit here even visually. The designation of the early version matters — the N1K2-J changed during production and the placement of some controls on later machines does not match the early one. The canopy is well glazed and the cockpit sits high, so you really can see into it. The seat belts in plastic from the mold are practically always only suggested.
Paint the cockpit and let it dry thoroughly. Sand the raised engraving on the plastic panel flat so that the decal seats over its whole area. Soak the part in lukewarm water, position it and press it down with a soft brush. Decal softener by drops, and once it is dry the whole can be tied together with a matte varnish. Work before the fuselage halves are glued together.
The accessory is supplied without a kit, paints or glue. Check before ordering that you are building the Hasegawa kit.
