An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:24 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The real subject is the production Nissan Skyline GT-R of the BNR32 body, in the middle and late form corresponding to the 1991 and 1993 model years. That detail is exactly what sets the package apart from the earlier BNR32 version and from the racing specials issued alongside it.
The Skyline GT-R of the BNR32 generation was introduced at the end of the 1980s and brought the GT-R name back into Nissan's range after a long pause. It is powered by a turbocharged inline six of 2.6 liters with two turbochargers, completed with all-wheel drive with an electronically controlled torque split and a rear-wheel steering system. During production the car went through several revisions, so early, middle and late examples differ in details of equipment and execution. The production BNR32 is today among the most sought-after Japanese cars of its day.
Before you start building, go through the instructions and decide which of the two forms you want to build; if the parts differ, changing your mind later is difficult. Paint the body in thin coats and do not bury the edges, so that the sharp engraving of the pressings stays. For a production car it pays to spend time on the wheels and brakes, which are very much on show on a GT-R, and to bring the panel lines of the body out gently with a dark panel liner. Leave the interior matte and handle the contrast between the plastic of the dashboard and the upholstery with shade rather than sheen.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
